first
in my head alone
then
in my muscles, which
screech into action
like an unused bike
I wipe away the rust
from my cleats
from my shin guards
I polish my ball and
siphon off the dirt and grime
from my legs
the tan of summer
spreads like a stain
across me
a mark of my leisure
and of the time spent
away from the field
